Tugu Negara / National Monument

Tugu Negara is a sculpture that commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japenese occupation during World war II and the Malayan Emergency which lasted from 1948 to 1960. The huge tall bronze figures of soldiers standing and supporting their fallen comrades, which is opposite Lake Gardens, are the work of sculptor Felix de Weldon, who also did Washington’s Iwo Jima Monument and it is regarded as the largest bronze monument grouping in the world. The monument depicts a group of soldiers holding the Malaysian national flag, the "Jalur Gemilang", aloft. Each of the bronze figures symbolizes leadership, suffering, unity, vigilance, strength, courage and sacrifice.

Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square)

Dataran Merdeka/Independence Square was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang, and was originally the cricket green of the Selangor Club (currently known as Royal Selangor Club).
The Dataran Merdeka was officially opened on January 1, 1990 in conjunction of Visit Malaysia Year 1990.
The most significant landmarks built by the British is the "Sultan Abdul Samad Building" which grandly overlooks the Dataran Merdeka. The building was completed in 1897 and housed several important departments during the British administration.
A 95-meter flagpole is one of the tallest in the world, marks that spot with a flat, round black marble plaque. It is located at the southern end of the square.
The quasi-Tudor style timber structure was built in 1890 and remains a place to watch a game of cricket on a Sunday afternoon.
The Royal Selangor Club's Tudor-style building, built in 1890 is in stark contrast to the Moorish Sultan Abdul Samad government building across the square.

KUALA LUMPUR OH KUALA LUMPUR

Kuala Lumpur or in short or better known as "KL" is the Capital City of Malaysia. The original name for this city was "Pengkalan Lumpur", which means bundle of mud. As time passes by the name changed to Kuala Lumpur which literally means “muddy confluence” in Bahasa Melayu.
Kuala Lumpur has its origins in the 1850s, when the Malay Chief of Klang, Raja Abdullah, hired some Chinese labourers to open new and larger tin mines. They landed at the confluence of Sungai Gombak & Sungai Klang to open mines at Ampang.Sungai Gombak was previously known as Sungai Lumpur, which means muddy river. Later, tin mines were opened at Pudu and Batu. Among the early notable pioneers are Hiu Siew and Liu Ngim Kong. These mines became a trading post and was considered a frontier town with many problems including the Selangor Civil War; it was also plagued by diseases and constant fires and floods.Around the 1870s, the Chinese Kapitan of Kuala Lumpur, Yap Ah Loy, emerged as leader, and became responsible for the survival and subsequent systematic growth of this town.He is the one who began to develop Kuala Lumpur from a small unknown place into a mining town with economic boom.In 1880, the state capital of Selangor was moved from Klang to the more strategically advantageous Kuala Lumpur. KL is the capital and the largest city in Malaysia and there are many interesting places should be visited when you are in "KL".

Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor

On 21/12/2008 we had an invition for a wedding in Tanjong Karang. On the way back home my mom suggested us to stopped at Bukit Malawati. In my heart was saying "Alamak! Bukit Malawati again" b'coz i've been there many times. But probably on the other hand she wanted to bring my nephew for "jalan-jalan" since they have not been there yet.
Kami terpaksa menunggu lebih kurang 20 minit untuk naik ke atas dengan menaiki 'trem'. Harga tiket untuk orang dewasa RM2 dan kanak-kanak RM1. Bukit Malawati is one of the popular place in Selangor and amongst the tourist attraction. It is located in Kuala Selangor.
During the 19th century, there was a fort built on Bukit Malawati and the purpose of this fort was to defend the state of Selangor from its enemies which came from the river mouth. Bukit Malawati has a lighthouse and several old colonial houses built during the British days. Paling menarik terdapat banyak Monyet dan agak bersopan-santun serta tidak menggangu pelawat2 yang datang. This families of "Silver-Leafed Monkeys" and Long-Tailed Macaques hang around here for peanut handouts from visitors. The Silver-leafed babies have golden fur as compared with the adults of dull-ashen grey.
Bukit Malawati also offers a panoramic view of the Selangor coast and the Klang Valley.
